ASPEN — The Aspen Chamber Resort Association recently gave Helen Klanderud the 2009 Molly Campbell Award, which recognizes outstanding volunteer service in Aspen. Klanderud receives $2,500 to acknowledge her community stewardship.
In addition to a long career as an attorney and clinical social worker, Klanderud served as a Pitkin County commissioner from 1981 to 1987 and as the mayor of Aspen from 2001 to 2007. Her current board memberships include the resort association (professional representative), The Right Door, Aspen Homeless Shelter, Aspen Writers' Foundation (treasurer), Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, Jazz Aspen Snowmass (community member), St. Mary parish finance council, El Pomar Foundation High Country regional council and Aspen Film.
The Molly Campbell Award was created in June 2007 after its longtime hotelier namesake retired from her position as managing director and vice president of Destination Hotels & Resorts. An Aspen resident since 1970, Campbell was deeply involved in the community during a time of great growth and served on the ACRA board of directors. Past recipients include Jackie Kasabach in 2007 and Pam Cunningham in 2008.
