ASPEN An Aspen woman faces more than 10 years in state prison in connection with a search at her residence that allegedly turned up several hundred pills of Xanax along with cocaine and other items of a dubious nature.
Aspen police arrested Kelly Jean Redwine, 29, on Wednesday evening for allegedly stealing money and clothing from her roommates, court documents showed.
Upon her arrival at the Pitkin County jail, authorities issued Redwine a summons for theft of the items. While at the jail she signed a voluntary consent search form that authorized Aspen police to search her bedroom, according to an affidavit filed in Pitkin County District Court.
Officers Walter Chi, Ian MacAyeal and Matt Burg then escorted Redwine to her home along Vine Street at about midnight Wednesday.
The officers then performed a search of her bedroom. The first item found was a credit card in a trash can that apparently belonged to someone else.
The officers also turned up some clothing that belonged to Redwines roommates, and ripped up blank checks from accounts that contained the names of other people. The search also turned up an aluminum can that had a white residue, a paper bindle with white residue and related paraphernalia.
A search of her nightstand allegedly turned up [five] plastic sandwich bags with green rectangular pills.
Redwine apparently told an officer the pills were Xanax. The affidavit described the pills as a powerful member of the (benzodiazepine) family of drugs or tranquilizers.
A subsequent count of the pills totaled 438, the affidavit stated.
Redwine apparently told police she did not have a prescription for the pills, and had bought them for personal use from someone she did not know.
Officers arrested Redwine again and took her back to the jail to book her for unlawful possession of a schedule II substance and unlawful distribution of a schedule IV substance.
Redwine is also accused of criminal possession of a financial transaction device, possession of drug paraphernalia and theft of less than $500.
District Court Judge James Boyd, who set bond at $10,000, advised her of the pending counts on Thursday afternoon. Boyd also ordered Redwine to return to court Feb. 9 for another hearing.
She is being held at the county jail.
