GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — A man who pleaded guilty to snatching a 9-year-old girl from her Grand Junction apartment and putting her in the trunk of his car faces at least 64 years in prison.

Michael Byerrum plead guilty Monday to five charges of sexual assault, second-degree kidnapping and three habitual offender charges. The 41-year-old was arrested after the girl bit his nose and ran away when he stopped his car in the woods and took her out of the trunk.

Byerrum was free on bond from another case when the May 31 kidnapping happened.

Byerrum's would have face 16 years for for the latest case but the punishment was increased by four times because of a prior record of kidnapping, second-degree burglary and escape.
