ASPEN A 52-year-old man was found dead Sunday at the bottom of an avalanche outside the ski-area boundary on Aspen Mountain, authorities said late Sunday.
The body of Cory Brettmann of Old Snowmass was found in the Power Line area around 9 p.m. Authorities received a call of an overdue skier at about 8:30 p.m. and the Aspen Skiing Co. mobilized 22 people to search for Brettmann.
The victim was not breathing and had no pulse, the Pitkin County Sheriffs Office said in a press release. Rescuers attempted to revive him using a defibrillator. The cause of death remains under investigation.
The avalanche, in the Power Line area outside of the ski boundary, was about 100 yards long and 30 yards wide, according to the sheriff's office.
