Aspen schools score well in latest accountability ratings

ASPEN — Aspen schools scored either high or excellent performance ratings according to the latest round of school accountability reports, released Tuesday by the Colorado Department of Education.

Among other things, the reports rate the average performance and academic growth of students at every Colorado school. Ratings are calculated using the prior year’s scores on state-mandated Colorado Student Achievement Program tests.

The ratings are but one aspect of the reports, but they matter to schools, as they are often cited as an indicator of the educational quality within school districts. Education websites such as greatschools.net and real estate websites like cyberhomes.com frequently use the ratings to guide parents and potential homebuyers regarding the performance of schools in various districts.
