Warm temperatures by midweek prevented snowmaking on Aspen Mountain, as this idle blower on Wednesday attests. Aspenites will dance for the real thing in a Pray For Snow ritual on Saturday.
ASPEN Local radio personality Don Chaney of KSNO is inviting local snow worshippers to the second annual Pray For Snow Dance this weekend in downtown Aspen.
In an announcement to the local media, Chaney recalled that on the night of last years first Snow Dance, the skies responded with 18 inches of powder, followed by 2 feet the next day.
Participants are being asked to show up on the Cooper Avenue mall at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, and to bring drums if theyve got them, as well as their dancing shoes. Hot chocolate will be provided.
The plan, according to Chaney, is to get everyone organized by 6 p.m. so the dance will be large and coordinated, to the extent possible.
Participants also are asked to bring a canned food item or coat to donate to the needy, and those who do will be entered into a raffle for prizes from a number of local merchants.
