A dangerous highway epidemic

Dear Editor:

Monday, I witnessed the bus that carries construction workers from Snowmass Village to the Brush Creek intercept lot, blow through the red light at Highway 82 and Brush Creek Road. Blowing through red lights seems to becoming an epidemic.

Last month, I made a report to Deputy Paula Dent regarding a Grand River Construction truck that blew through a red light at Aspen Village. I said I was willing to sign a complaint. … I sent a statement as requested. I haven’t heard anything back from Deputy Dent. So, I guess I have my answer, the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office

doesn’t consider speeding or blowing through red lights important.

I have a dear friend who was injured when some idiot blowing through a red light T-boned her. That was a year ago and she is still dealing with her injuries. The tragedy that could have happened at Brush Creek and Highway 82 could have been devastating.

I plan on taking this issue to AAA, CDOT and USDOT. Whether or not I can make anyone sit up and notice this serious issue remains to be seen. In the meantime, I recommend that drivers look both ways before making turns on Highway 82. Your last vision of life could be of a truck about to extinguish you or someone you love.
