Dear Editor:
Every year I express my appreciation and gratitude for the Veterans Day ceremony held at the Court House Plaza. It is now an annual event which has become a tradition in Aspen. It has evolved into a true community event, representing people from many different walks of life, with their incredible stories and fascinating backgrounds.
Thanks to Lt. Colonel Merritt for his continuing service to our country; to Pastor Dan Bosco, for his well-spoken words of encouragement and faith. We are blessed each year with the two goldens Richard Sundeen with his golden trumpet and Jeannie Walla with her golden voice.
This year we had a special family which exemplifies the meaning of duty and service to country: the Barth family Chuck, Janine, and Kurt. Thank you all for your dedication.
A special thanks to the Color Guard representatives of the five branches of the United States military. You added a very professional look and touch.
Thanks to the veterans who spoke to the audience and thanks to members of the audience who spoke to the veterans; this is what remembering living veterans is all about; sharing and laughing about life experiences.
A thank you to the Aspen Police Department and Pitkin County staff for their help with the ceremony; we couldnt do it without you.
A final thank you to the Elk Lodge; your dedication and continued support for veterans is outstanding; as was the lunch served after the ceremony.
I would also like to thank Brent Gardner Smith for his article and coverage of the ceremony.
In closing, I can only think of two words which sum up my heart felt feelings: Thank you!
