As I watched the election results the other night, the camera spent quite a bit of time on a writhing mass of young people on Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House. Heady times, these, as the 20-somethings jumped for joy, their heads lolling back to show tongue studs and nose rings.
The savior is come.
No wonder we just elected the most liberal, leftist candidate to be President. These same children of the 90s were the ones that voted him in. This was the generation that had self-esteem an hour a day in grammar school; they emulate east L.A. gangbangers, the dregs of the earth, in their clothing; they cant spell or write; and I bet most of that crowd couldnt pass a urinalysis. It is a generation that is a product of political correctness, and of course they chose the politically correct candidate, Barack Obama, to be our President.
Still, Im glad to see that weve elected an African-American to the office of the President, because now we can finally get this affirmative-action nonsense over with. Cant we? No less a father figure of the civil rights movement than Douglas Wilder, the first African-American governor of Virginia, commented that Obamas election was a catharsis.
Its spell-breaking, in terms of being able to say to any child in America, You can be anything you want to be, he said in an interview on National Public Radio. It doesnt matter whether youre rich, or whether youre selected, or whether youre Asian, or African it doesnt matter. Youre an American. And what we say by words is now matched by deeds at the highest possible level, Wilder said. And excuses cant be tolerated: Oh, I cant do this, or We cant do this No, no, no, thats verboten, thats gone.
Ahhhhhhh thank you. Thank you, Mr. Wilder. Because, well, this whole race thing is getting very tedious. While liberals try to justify affirmative action, which is nothing more than government-sponsored race discrimination, as a good and necessary thing, I think weve moved beyond that. If theres still a black American out there who feels disenfranchised or marginalized, its your own damned fault.
While there are still pockets of racism here and there, the overwhelming majority of white Americans have moved on, in my opinion. All you have to do is look at the contracts handed out by Nike, Pepsi, 7Up and Buick to Americans of color such as Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Tiger Woods to mass-market their products. Whenever a company hands out a contract for more than $100 million to one man to pitch their goods, chances are that theyve done their marketing research.
Black athletes, politicians, business leaders, and military commanders have been more than accepted in our society. Theyve been lauded and praised.
Nobody from the admission staffs at Princeton and Harvard has ever stood up and admitted that both Barack and Michelle Obama were affirmative-action admissions. However, nothing in Obamas background as a wastrel in his youth would suggest that he was deserving of the outstanding educational opportunities that he received. He sure doesnt tell stories about how hard it was to pay his way through college. It would be interesting to interview the admissions staffs at the Ivy League universities where Barack and Michelle Obama got their educations and their scholarships. Are they now exulting, raising their glasses high, saying, We did it! It worked!? I bet they are.
The world is enchanted with Barack Obama, and hopes are stratospherically high that he will be everything to all people: peacemaker, job creator, defender of our rights, and yeah, the savior of the world. The messiah.
My fear is that weve elected exactly the wrong guy to lead our country. Political correctness has made us pay some hard dues before. I recall the Jayme Gorelick memo separating the CIA from the FBI to strangle efforts of the intelligence agencies to communicate with each other prior to 9/11. My fear is that weve been so anxious to trip over ourselves and purge this awful legacy of racism, that weve elected a guy who appears to get us over that hurdle without considering who he really is. My fear is that Barack Obama has been so brilliantly packaged as a centrist that were going to deeply regret our choice after his true political leanings are signed into law. My fear is that the avalanche of entitlements and politically correct nonsense that an unrestrained Democratic Congress shovels out will be impossible to reverse after Obama leaves office.
The Democrats (remember, I used to be one) are lining up an agenda that will make any common-sense American sick to his stomach. Its an agenda based on emotion and sentiment, one that is supposed to punish those who work hard and reward those who havent got the gumption to get off their asses.
The first thing on the agenda will be socialized medicine, so that our entitlement bill balloons even larger. Well get to pay an even higher tab for the lazy, indolent and obese, as they stuff themselves into morbid obesity with fast food and soft drinks and then claim to be disabled.
Youll see a steady and consistent attempt to impose dramatically high taxes on gun ownership and ammunition sales, and laws that will make it all but impossible to operate a gun shop. (FYI, a million rounds of .223 ammunition were sold the day after Obama was elected.)
Youll see big rewards to activist groups that were instrumental in Obamas election, such as ACORN, who will be loaded up with spending programs. It didnt work with Johnsons Great Society, it didnt work with Jimmy Carter, and the only thing that seemed to work was when Clinton joined up with the Republicans and accomplished welfare reform.
Putin, Ahmadinijad, and the Chinese junta will laugh in his face.
Change will become a joke as he recycles a bunch of re-tread Democrats such as Rahm Emanuel, John Kerry, Chris Dodd, Richard Holbrooke and Tom Daschle for his staff and cabinet.
Small business owners will pay more taxes and employ fewer people.
Youll have to get used to many more episodes of our social freak show, with no holds barred on social conduct.
And youll see not only a continuation of affirmative action, youll see an expansion of it.
This is what I fear. I hope Im wrong, but I bet Im not.
The savior is come.
