BASALT Harry Teague Architects has received the Colorado American Institute of Architects highest award for design in architecture for its live-work project in Basalt. One of only two honor awards given this year in the state competition, the green project combines contemporary, residential lofts above with professional office space below, including Teagues office. Theres a beauty to the eclecticism of how the buildings facades were all related to each other but different as you moved around the building, the head juror said about the project. Acting as a barrier between the quiet Roaring Fork River riparian zone and Highway 82, the building features 10 solar panels for radiant heat along with a 10 kwh photovoltaic array that produces double the buildings commercial electricity consumption.Harry Teague Architects also received design awards earlier this year from the Colorado West and Denver divisions of the American Institute of Architects for a house in Crested Butte built for former Skico executive John Norton, as well as a large mixed-use collaborative project in downtown Denver known as TAXI.
