Burglary suspects get probation

GLENWOOD SPRINGS — The suspect accused of the most involvement in a string of business burglaries last summer, Bradley Guyon, will be sentenced on Friday, Oct. 17. Others charged in the spate of break-ins have already been sentenced to probation.

Sean Egan, who was charged with 33 burglary-related counts, was sentenced last week to two years probation and drug court; he’d already served about 180 days in jail. He pleaded guilty to a motor vehicle theft charge and admitted he’d violated his probation. All the burglary-related charges were dismissed.

Police arrested five adults and two or three juveniles in late November 2007 and said they were connected to a string of 38 burglaries at businesses in Glenwood Springs, Carbondale and in unicorporated Garfield County. The crime spree began in July 2007. The adults were all under age 20 at the time. People were shocked after several downtown Glenwood Springs businesses were burglarized on the weekend of Oct. 20.

Last December, the 9th Judicial District Attorney's Office filed 35 charges against Bradley Guyon, including burglary and theft charges. Sean Egan was charged with 33 similar counts including an aggravated motor vehicle theft and a vehicular eluding charge. William Riddle was originally charged with 13 burglary-related counts, and David Iuele received nine burglary-related charges. Khory Gagner was charged with four burglary-related crimes, but his case has been dismissed.

David Iuele pleaded guilty to a burglary charge and got four years intensive supervised probation, drug court and 80 hours of community service; he spent 180 days in jail. Riddle also pleaded guilty to a burglary charge and received a similar sentence.

Each suspect could also be forced to pay restitution for amounts still being determined.

According to arrest affidavits, police made progress in the investigation after getting critical information from Iuele’s ex-girlfriend who was upset about his harassing phone calls. She told police about a stolen safe from the Yampah Spa and Vapor Caves and implicated Iuele and Riddle in the crimes.

Iuele then admitted to involvement in some of the crimes during a police interview and “provided detailed information” about numerous other burglaries. The interview led to arrest warrants for Guyon, Egan, Gagner and three juveniles.
