Five to vie for Aspen council post

ASPEN — The Aspen City Council narrowed the field of candidates vying for an open council seat to five finalists on Friday.

The short list includes: retired banker Howie Mallory; Aspen-Pitkin County

Housing Board member Marcia Goshorn; Cloud Nine Brownies owner Jim Pomeroy; former housing board member Jackie Kasabach; and Jasmine Tygre, who was appointed to fulfill a council term once before and also formerly served on the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission.

In all, 19 people applied for appointment to the seat that opened with the Sept. 18 death of Councilman J.E. DeVilbiss.

The finalists are being asked to answer, in writing, eight questions drafted by the council. The answers are due Oct. 7.

The council intends to interview the candidates individually at an Oct. 15 meeting that will be open to the public. The council expects to vote on the appointment at a special meeting on Oct. 16.

For more on the finalists, see Saturday’s Aspen Times.
