Bond set for alleged attacker

Print Comment
EAGLE, Colo. — Bond has been set at $100,000 for Ian Ranney, the Carbondale man accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend with a knife in a Basalt-area trailer park Monday morning.

Ranney remains in custody in the Eagle County jail. An Eagle County District Court judge approved a protective order, similar to a restraining order, to prevent Ranney from contacting the victim, her roommate and her roommate’s boyfriend should the suspect post bond.

Police say Ranney hid outside his former girlfriend’s trailer at the Aspen-Basalt Mobile Home Park and ambushed her around 6 a.m. Monday. He allegedly stabbed her in the face and cut her neck several times. The victim also was cut on the hands several times as she defended herself.

The woman, who wasn’t identified, survived the attack. She is recovering after surgery at Valley View Hospital, according to Eagle County Sheriff’s Office investigator Doug Winters.

Ranney, 25, is charged with first-degree assault, felony menacing, domestic violence and harassment/stalking.
