ASPEN — The Aspen Mountain Hill Climb, a race for runners and bikers, has been rescheduled for Sunday. Now in its 14th year, the race begins at 8 a.m. at the base of Aspen Mountain, just above the Silver Queen Gondola patio on the Summer Road.
The 4.5-mile course follows the Summer Road to the top of Aspen Mountain and finishes at the Sundeck, a 3,400-foot elevation gain. Aid stations will be located at Gwyn's Restaurant, Bonnie's Restaurant and at the finish line at the top of the mountain.
The hill climb is the second event of the annual Aspen Summer Race Series, which benefits the Aspen High School crosscountry running program.
Entry is $10, and is tax deductible. Further donations are accepted.
Entrants may register at the Ute Mountaineer in Aspen until 5 p.m. on Friday, or on race day beginning at 7 a.m. at the gondola patio. Registrations also are accepted online at www.active.com, keyword “aspen.”
The mountain biking wave starts at 8 a.m., while the running/hiking wave starts at 8:15 a.m.
All events in the race series offer agegroup awards. There are also random drawings for prizes. Series winners also will be honored with additional prizes.
The third leg of the Aspen Summer Race Series will be the Chuck Severy Memorial 5K on Oct. 4.
