Mudslide closes Hwy. 133

Print Comment
REDSTONE — A mudslide closed Highway 133 south of Carbondale for about two hours Thursday evening and trapped a semi-tractor trailer. No one was hurt.

The slide, apparently triggered by rain, closed the highway at mile marker 54, two miles north of Redstone, at about 9 p.m. A Colorado Department of Transportation crew was able to open one lane to traffic at about 11 p.m. and worked through the night to clear the slide area, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The slide was about 200 yards long and reportedly 5 to 6 feet deep in places, according to the patrol. The truck was caught in the mud and became disabled, but the driver was not injured and no damage was reported to the vehicle, the patrol said.

There was also an unconfirmed report Friday morning that debris was blocking Avalanche Creek Road, accessed off Highway 133 south of Carbondale.
