Freshen up the flags

Print Comment
Dear Editor:

Now that the frantic flurry of the gathering of the Masters of the Universe in and around the Roaring Fork Valley (40-plus billionaires) for the “$Fourth of July$” weekend centered in Aspen but also fueled by the entire Roaring Fork Valley, I would like to share one thought:

I have seen tattered, faded flags flown above the post offices, schools, city/town halls, and government buildings in Pitkin, Eagle and Garfield counties.

Question: Why are all the flags in all our parades so new and RED, WHITE and BLUE? On the lampposts, parade banners and everywhere.

Anyone can purchase a fresh flag, for a nominal fee, at www.usflag.org/flag etiquette.html. They also let you know how to retire your tired flag with dignity. Thanks for reading this message.

Renee Ritchie
