ASPEN — Aspen Film, in association with the Aspen Music Festival and School, will present seven films in the SummerFilms series. The series presents films on Sunday and Monday evenings at 8 p.m. in Paepcke Auditorium.

The series opens Sunday, June 29 with “Surfwise,” a documentary about the Paskowitz family of Israel, led by eccentric patriarch “Doc” Paskowitz, and their unusual lifestyle, centered around surfing.

French director Claude Lelouch’s “Roman de Gare,” a crime thriller about a popular novelist starring Fanny Ardant, is set for July 6-7. The Italian film “My Brother Is an Only Child,” a coming-of-age drama set in the ’60s and ’70s, shows July 13-14. The film, written and directed by Daniele Luchetti, earned four Italian David Awards, and was nominated for five others.

“Dalai Lama Renaissance,” a documentary about a group of artists, scholars, physicists and more, traveling to India to meet with the Dalai Lama, is scheduled for July 20-21. The film is directed by Khashyar Darvich, and narrated by Harrison Ford.

“Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson,” a documentary of the late Woody Creek writer, will be screened July 27-28. The film is directed by Alex Gibney, who won the best documentary Academy Award for last year’s “Taxi to the Dark Side.” “Mongol,” a Mongolian-language historical drama of the emperor and warrior Genghis Khan, shows Aug. 3-4.

The SummerFilms series closes Aug. 10-11 with “The Edge of Heaven,” a drama by Turkish-German filmmaker Fatih Akin, director of 2004’s acclaimed “Head-On.”
