Strange side mirrors lead to pot bust

ASPEN — A noontime traffic stop behind the Hotel Jerome in Aspen yielded a cache of suspected pot on Thursday.

Suspicious about strange side mirrors on a small Dodge sedan, Sgt. Chip Seamans ran the vehicle’s license plate.

And when it came back as a invalid record, he made the stop.

The driver, later identified as Lawrence John Price, 50, of Arvada, allegedly had two warrants out of Boulder and Denver for nonpayment of child support and driving without a license.

With Price’s consent, officers searched the car and found individual bags of suspected marijuana in the front seat totaling more than 1 ounce and less than 8 ounces, according to Seamans.

“It was enough for distribution,” said Aspen investigator Chris Womack.

Police arrested Price on the two outstanding warrants and charged him with possession of marijuana and possession with intent to distribute.

Price was taken to the Pitkin County jail, where he was held on a $21,250 bond.
