Ziggy Marley joins Labor Day lineup

Print Comment
SNOWMASS — Ziggy Marley, a son of reggae pioneer Bob Marley, has been added to the lineup for Jazz Aspen Snowmass’ Labor Day Festival, as an opening act for songwriting legend Bob Dylan. Both will perform on Aug. 30; the five-day Labor Day Festival is set for Aug. 28 to Sept. 1 in Snowmass Village’s Town Park.

Ziggy, the oldest son of Bob Marley, emerged while still a teenager with Ziggy Marley & the Melody Makers. The band, featuring three of Ziggy’s siblings, earned a Grammy Award for the 1988 album, “Conscious Party.” Marley has released two solo albums recently, including 2006’s “Love Is My Religion.” He appeared as a solo act at last summer’s Snowmass Chili Pepper & Brew Fest.

Also added to the lineup is alt-country singer-songwriter Tift Merritt, who will make her local debut Aug. 31, on a bill with John Fogerty and Dwight Yoakam.

Previously announced acts for the festival include Yonder Mountain String Band, Xavier Rudd, Jerry Douglas, and Widespread Panic, who will headline the first two nights of the festival.
