GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — The Mesa County Coroner’s Office on Thursday identified the driver who caused a deadly wreck on Interstate 70 Monday as a California woman.

Kathryn Ann Disparti, 48, of Napa, Calif., died of multiple blunt-force injuries after a head-on collision that resulted when she drove onto the interstate in the wrong direction, according to authorities. The coroner’s office ruled her death as an accident.

Coroner’s investigator Steve Stogsdill said the results of toxicology tests won’t be available for two to six weeks.

Disparti’s Dodge Caravan slammed into a Chevy Monte Carlo driven by 26-year-old Jenny Steele-Trover of Fruita, Colo., killing her. Steele-Trover died at the scene; Disparti died a few hours later.

Trover’s 5-month-old son, Jacob Everett Steele, was in the back seat of the Monte Carlo and suffered head injuries. He was reported in fair condition Thursday at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, upgraded from critical condition.

Disparti drove onto I-70 at the 24 Road exit ramp in Grand Junction, heading west in eastbound traffic and colliding with Steele-Trover’s vehicle.
