CARBONDALE — Whatever sounds that are suggested by the name, Boulder Acoustic Society, are bound to fall short of the full picture.

The Front Range quintet, formed five years ago, mixes chamber music and bluegrass with jazz and Celtic. And rockabilly and punk, country and gospel. The new CD “The Caged Bird” seems too short (eight tracks, 28 minutes) to squeeze in all their facets, but they almost manage.

The release will undoubtedly be available for purchase in the back room at Steve’s Guitars in Carbondale on Friday, when the BAS takes the shop’s cozy stage for an 8:30 p.m. show. E-mail shop owner Steve Standiford at sguitars@sopris.net to reserve a seat (no word on the admission price).

On Saturday, singer-songwriter Beth Amsel returns to Steve’s for an 8:30 p.m. show billed Beth Amsel and Friends. Expect local musican A.O. Forbes among the friends, according to Standiford.

Amsel is a graduate of Carbondale’s Colorado Rocky Mountain School who now calls Nederland, Colo. home. Her 2000 CD “A Thousand Miles” earned a nomination for a Boston Music Award for best debut folk/acoustic album.

Admission on Saturday is $10.
