Winter storm watch in effect for Aspen

Print Comment
ASPEN — Yet another spring snowstorm is poised to hit the mountains of western Colorado, including the Aspen area, late Monday and on Tuesday.

A winter storm watch is in effect for an area that includes the Elk Mountains, which surround Aspen and Snowmass Village, from 6 p.m. Monday through Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow may be heavy at times, and total accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are possible above 9,000 feet, the weather service predicted (Aspen is at 7,900 feet, by the way). Lows in the 20s are predicted overnight on Monday, with highs Tuesday of 35 to 45.

Rain and snow showers are expected in the lower Roaring Fork Valley, with no snow accumulations, the weather service said.

Partly sunny skies are forecast Wednesday morning in Aspen before clouds again prevail. There is a 30 percent chance of snow showers Wednesday night and a 40 percent chance on Thursday.

Partly cloudy skies and highs in the 50s are expected by the weekend.
