Highway 82 motorists get green light at Truscott

Print Comment
The length of time the Truscott Drive signal stays green for Highway 82 traffic will double starting Tuesday, May 13, according to city officials.

The extended green light will be in effect Monday through Friday between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., which is the afternoon peak period of travel. Providing traffic additional time to travel through the Truscott Drive intersection should improve the traffic flow on Highway 82, city officials said.

However, the extended green signal may result in an additional delay for drivers on Truscott Drive.

The recommendation to adjust the signal timing came from a study of Highway 82 traffic conditions conducted on behalf of the city of Aspen. The study, entitled “State Highway 82 Turn Restriction Analysis,” was conducted by PBS&J, a Colorado engineering firm.

The study evaluated restricting turns at the Truscott Drive and Cemetery Lane intersections. The study concluded that the only improvement that should be made right now is to double the cycle length of the traffic signal at the Highway 82/Truscott Drive intersection during the afternoon.

For more information, contact the city of Aspen’s transportation department at 970-920-5042.
