ASPEN — The Wheeler Film Series has announced six titles for the month of May.
The movie month opens Saturday and Sunday, May 3-4, with “Blindsight,” Lucy Walker’s inspirational documentary about six blind Tibetan teenagers climbing a 23,000-foot peak on the north side of Mount Everest with blind mountaineer Erik Weihenmayer.
“Paranoid Park,” Gus Van Sant’s drama about a teenage skateboarder’s troubled life, is set for May 12-13. The Israeli film “Beaufort,” about a troop of young soldiers stationed at a remote outpost before the 2000 withdrawal from Lebanon, shows May 19-20. The film, directed by Joseph Cedar, earned an Academy Award nomination for best foreign language film.
“Transformation: The Life and Legacy of Werner Erhard,” a documentary about the founder of the EST training seminars, will have an encore screening on May 21. “Meet Me in St. Louis,” the classic 1944 Vincente Minnelli musical about an early 20th-century family leaving St. Louis for New York City, is set for May 24. The film will be introduced by local musical historian Bob Klineman, and will be followed by a Q&A session.
“Diva,” a 1981 French romantic, comic thriller about a misidentified tape of an opera singer, is set for May 22-23.
“Shine a Light,” Martin Scorsese’s career-spanning profile of the Rolling Stones, featuring concert footage from the group’s 2006 A Bigger Bang tour, will be screened May 25-26.
Alex Gibney’s examination of U.S. torture practices, “Taxi to the Dark Side,” which earned the Academy Award for Best Documentary, shows May 27-28.
