BASALT — A former assistant principal at Basalt High School was hired as the principal there, the Roaring Fork School District announced Monday.
Kevin Schott will take over next school year for Jim Waddick, who is retiring after holding that position for eight years.
Schott was the assistant principal and athletic director at Basalt High School from 1994 to 1996. He was hired as an assistant principal at Grand Junction High School in 1996 and was promoted to the principal’s position there in 2002.
An interview committee for the Basalt High School opening credited Schott for his strong commitment to students and learning, and involving teachers and parents in the decision-making process. Schott also earned accolades for his experiences as a teacher and administrator at both the middle and high school levels; his service on the Colorado High School Activities Association; and his current position as the president elect of the Colorado Association of Secondary Administrators.
The selection committee was comprised of students, staff, parents, a member of the Board of Education and district officials.
Schott will officially take the helm at Basalt High School in August, but he plans to be involved this spring and summer in preparation for his new position.
