Dear Editor:

“Hike for Hope”

Rise in the dark, out in the cold

The gun goes off, you’re not old

Up Buttermilk, concurred the first hill

Warming up, I can make it, I will

Surrounded by folks who are here to give

Graced by the beauty of where we all live

Families hike together, youthful and not

No one is alone, community’s what we got

Some try the challenge for the very first time

Others been doing it, since candy bars were a dime

A blue bird day, so magical to see

The sun’s so bright, I yell YIPPY!

The event is about, more then a race

It does not matter, where you place

On top there are cheers, for every single soul

Who cares what your time, you’ve reached your goal

This is what community is all about

Kinship, connection, pancakes, there is no doubt

Hike for Hope, makes my heart feel light

To feel this way, is just so right

If you didn’t come out this year, get out there next

Because as races go, this one is the best!
