CARBONDALE — Guitarist/singer Andy Schneider should feel right at home for his Saturday gig at Steve’s Guitars in Carbondale.

The vintage guitars and stringed oddities that line the walls of Steve Standiford’s shop will form a fitting backdrop for Schneider’s ax — an 8-string guitar that allows Schneider to play both bass and lead guitar simultaneously.

Built by Ralph Novak of Novax Guitars, the Charlie Hunter 8-string model holds two courses of strings — three bass and five guitar, and each have their own set of pickups and outputs that go to separate bass and guitar amps. The setup lets Scheider set down base lines at the same time he’s playing a blues riff or chords.

He also favors an early 1950s Gibson GA-6 during his one-man live shows, according to his website.

The versatile bluesman who delves into jazz, as well, also plays drums and harmonica. His repertoire includes both instrumentals and vocals.

Tracks off his 2007 release, “Snake Oil and Preachin” (Octotone) can be heard at www.myspace.com/andyschneidermusicshow. Some of them evoke a Stevie Ray Vaughan sort of feel.

Shows at Steve’s, 19 N. Fourth St., start at 8:30 p.m. Admission collected at the door.
