Registration open for uphill race

Print Comment
Registration is now open for the fourth annual Summit for Life. Formerly known as Storm the Stars, the race goes straight up Aspen Mountain at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1.

The Summit for Life celebration promotes organ and tissue donation and benefits the Chris Klug Foundation and the American Transplant Foundation. Nearly 100,000 people in the U.S. are currently awaiting an organ transplant, according to the Tranplant Foundation.

Race participants will travel more than 3,000 vertical feet to the top of Ajax using their preferred choice of lighting and non-motorized equipment — snowshoes, climbing skins and other creative means — in the dead of night. After they cross the finish line, participants can stay for dinner at the Sundeck, awards, a raffle and live music by The Coyote Gospel. Prizes will be given to the top three men and women finishers and the top team, as well as the top three fundraisers.

Racers of all ages and ability levels are encouraged to participate.

Registration costs $40 per person, and includes race support, aid stations, dinner, entertainment and a goodie bag. By registering, racers must commit to raise at least $160 in pledges.

Those who do not wish to hike but still want to support the cause do have other options. For more information or to register, visit www.summitforlife.org or contact Holly Upper at 970-300-4741 or Holly.Upper@gmail.com.
