Fatherly advice

Dear Editor:

My name is E.O. Rafelson. I am 7. Lately my dad has been talking to me about the Aspen he has lived in for more than 40 years. He says I am old enough to hear this. He says it used to be a wonderful place. It had people living here who liked each other and cared about what happened to the town. And those people weren't all rich. They even worked here! He says it's a damn shame I won't ever see that place, but that it still can be wonderful.

He says what it needs is known by many, but that they don't vote. They've given up. He says that's why it's even more important to have a leader in town who hasn't given up - who can inspire us. Dad says his name is Ireland. I thought that was a country. With leprechauns. Elves or something. He says this is a man. An honest man. A man with values. A man who believes in my future.

Please ... I want to live here. In this place that used to be even better. I am too young to vote. But maybe you are not. There is a man named Mick Ireland. He's not a country. Please vote for him!

P.S. My father, Bob, doesn't like it when I say damn. But he says it all the time.
