No time for complacency

Dear Editor:

Are you in your 20s or 30s? Do you consider yourself an Aspenite? Do you call Aspen home? Are you part of the dynamic fabric that makes Aspen Aspen? If so, this election is about us and about our futures here in Aspen.

Aspen needs your vote on June 5. In this spring's French presidential election, 85 percent of the country voted in the runoff! Now that is democracy in action. In a time when democracy comes as such a high and dangerous price, let's not be a community that takes this right for granted.

On June 5, I'm not taking the results of the clearly won first round for granted. I am again voting for the future steward of our community. I am again supporting a mayor with integrity and no professional conflict of interest, and thus a reliable voting quorum. I am again backing a mayor who intelligently researches all options and makes decisions with selfless deliberation.

I am encouraging you to think about Aspen's viable future and your realistic future in Aspen. Who will truly represent you best? Who will truly advocate for Aspen's tomorrow and not today's profit?

This is no time for complacency. I am voting for Mick on June 5.

Mirte Mallory
