It ain't over yet, so VOTE

Dear Editor:

Is a 44 percent voter turnout in our most recent election "rocking the vote?" You be the judge. About the average rate of voting/apathy for Aspen, I guess we can be happy that we're slightly above the national average. I thought we, as a community, were more than slightly above average, though.

Are you a local who comments or complains about the current state of affairs in town? Do you like writing letters to the editor? Take the time to vote then. It's not productive to complain and to not offer solutions. Voting in the runoff election, either early at City Hall or on Election Day at your precinct's polling place June 5 is, in effect, offering a solution. If you don't take the simple democratic step of voting, is it appropriate to whine about Aspen? Think about it.

Do you care about housing locals, pollution from construction sites, excessive traffic or the proliferation of fractional ownership? If your answer is "yes" to any of these issues, please care enough (to take the few minutes) to vote. When you do, you show that you value your community over the slight inconvenience to cast your vote.

This election IS NOT OVER. It's not over until "the skinny biker sings." Come on Aspen. We can do better!

Erik Skarvan
