I'd vote for Mick

Print Comment
Dear Editor:

Ayn Rand is one of my favorite authors, next to Hunter, of course.

For those who have actually read "Atlas Shrugged," you will recall that John Galt set up a community made up of people of like interests. This election is about representing the interests of this community. In any community, there will be some people whose interests are not in line with the majority. That does not mean that they do as they wish anyway but always have the freedom convince others to join their view or to select another community that represents choices they would like to make. I understand there is room in Vail.

While I find myself in support of Rand's anti-communist rhetoric and support the idea that the best government is the least government, on a local level I also want to live in a place that promotes principles and ideals that fit my own. I believe that my individual liberty involves my right to choose a community that respects the environment, controls development and sprawl, promotes a feeling of community, and tries to maintain a small-town feel. I am here because I love the outdoors and all that goes with it. I expect my local government to pass laws that protect my rights to what I love. Hence I chose to live in the Aspen area.

I have been watching the election rhetoric from the comfortable distance of Woody Creek, and I find that Mick Ireland best represents the principles and ideals that brought me here in the first place. If I were eligible to vote, he is the person I would support.
