Voting by the book

Print Comment
Dear Editor:

I'm voting for Mick Ireland, the candidate whose favorite book is not by Ayn Rand. Tim Semrau has chosen to reveal that his favorite is Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged." Surveys have shown that Rand is the favorite author and political philosopher of readers in the Bush administration. Rand's "Objectivism" philosophy holds that the only legitimate functions of government are the military and the police, and that all human progress stems from individual greed. The Bushies have shown their stripes by scheming to dismantle traditional government services and regulatory functions. I don't know how far Mr. Semrau would go as Aspen mayor, but I would just as soon take a pass on finding out.
