Colorado skiing only subject of new website

Print Comment
A website devoted entirely to skiing and riding in Colorado was launched last week by Alpinezone.com founder Greg Blasko.

The site - COskiing.com - provides ski resort information, news and feature stories about resorts across the state, lodging options, ski reports, snow conditions and a message board.

While there are sites specific to skiing in the state, like Colorado Ski Country's Coloradoski.com, COskiing.com is the first site to offer an online forum specific to Colorado, according to its creator.

"Colorado skiing is a widely used search term, as far as different ski searches go," Blasko said. "It's more than Utah and California and certainly more than New England. But I was surprised there were no Colorado specific message boards for the community."

Using Alpinezone.com as a template, Blasko ran with the idea. Alpinezone.com has been a successful Northeastern skiing and hiking website. Over the last six years, it has registered about 1,000 users who share information about the resorts and conditions.

Blasko envisions the Colorado website similarly attracting a large following of members who can share ski reports and anecdotes and post digital photographs.

"It's no secret there are some pretty established Colorado ski sites already," he said.

"But where we can become unique is providing a community feel, giving the everyday Web user a place to participate and share their love for an area.

"It's a more personal view."

Blasko added that the Colorado-exclusive nature of the site makes it more customer friendly. "Instead of wading through posts, it will all be centralized."

Ashley Boyden of Colorado Ski Country USA's media relations department, said anything that promotes Colorado can't be bad.

"The site looks pretty cool," Boyden said. "Anytime we can get the name out, it's good."

Currently, the site features two articles on Aspen and Snowmass - one focuses on Aspen Expeditions' guided tours of the backcountry accessed off of Aspen Highlands; the other is a holiday-season schedule for the four mountains.

Nonmembers can access the resort profiles, online reservations and current conditions pages, the last of which will be updated twice daily.

All of the site's services are free.
