ASPEN — Pitkin County prosecutor and Snowmass Town Councilman Arnold Mordkin and his wife are being sued by Alpine Bank for allegedly over-drafting two of their checking accounts, defaulting on a loan and not making good on two lines of credit.
The same day he learned of the suit, Mordkin got word that he cannot run for re-election to Town Council in November because of term limits. Mordkin has served as a councilman from 2000 to 2004, and from 2006 to 2010.
According to Alpine Bank's complaint, the Mordkins have defaulted on a $25,000 loan they took out in May 2007. Additionally, they allegedly have overdrawn one checking account by $5,943.46 and another by $473.54. They also allegedly owe $10,305.40 on a $10,000 credit line extended to them by Alpine Bank, and $503.45 on a credit line of $3,000, the suit says.
Mordkin declined to comment on the lawsuit, only to say his financial status has no bearing on his position as a prosecutor or as an outgoing town councilman.
The suit was filed Aug. 24 in Pitkin County District Court. It was made public Wednesday.
